Don't Set Yourself Up For Regret

Research shows, that at the end of our lives, our biggest regrets will be the risks we didn't take, the dreams we didn't chase, and the work we did not do.

A group hung a chalkboard in the middle of New York City for one full day. It had scribbled on the top "Write Your Biggest Regret." As the board filled up with answers, there was one strikingly common theme. . . .

"I was afraid. Afraid I guess of failing maybe."

"I regret all the time I wasted."

"It's something I've always wanted to do, since I was little."

"Time slipping away. I mean, that's the worst feeling in the world."

"I wanted to do so many things, but I could never seem to find the time."

"I did all the things that were Plan B."

"Staying in my comfort zone.

Everything they said can be boiled down to three simple letters.

N - O - T.

Not taking the risks. Not chasing the dreams. Not doing the work they felt in their heart they were created to do.

"Not saying I love you."

"Not getting involved."

"Never going after my dreams."

"Not following my artistic passions."

"Never speaking up."

"Not pursuing acting."

"Not being a better friend."

"I just never did it."

It is inaction, not action, that breeds the biggest regrets. The things we did not do will haunt us for the rest of our lives. And I promise you, you will feel more alive by trying and failing, than by wishing and wondering.

You can always say why you can't, why you didn't, why you won't. Excuses are easy. Don't be easy. Because if you want to do something, you will find a way. If you had the creativity to dream of something, you have the capacity to do it.

Embrace your fears; make failure your friend; dive in; and learn to swim.

No more excuses.

Who you become is more important that what you do. But what you do shapes who you become. (And what you don't do, keeps you from becoming the person you were meant to be.)

Are you doing the things today to help you move forward tomorrow?

Remember:You only have one life. Don't waste it! You were gifted to make a difference, and the world needs that special blend that only YOU have!

Take the risks, chase the dreams, and do the work. Create the change you wish to see, and live a life without regret.

Your dreams are worth chasing.
