The Magic of Creativity: 3 Steps to Making Something Out of Nothing

"Creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye."

-Dorothy Parker

Creativity is like magic. It is the ability to breath life into an idea, until it becomes a reality. It is almost like childbirth. It includes the labor pangs and awkward stages. But it's pretty miraculous once you bring something into this world that is beautiful, complex, and reflective of YOU, when it was little more than a thought before you started.

1. Imagine the Possibilities

Creative people are visionaries -- they see potential everywhere. If this comes naturally to you, harness that: write down those ideas, make a plan, and plan to execute. If it does not come as easily to you, think of this: what is it that is lacking today? What do you wish was different? What frustrated you today that you could solve for other people by creating something?

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination."

-Albert Einstein

2. Believe You Can Achieve

First you imagine what's possible. And then you have to believe that what's possible is possible for you. Faith is believing in something you don't see, until you begin to see what you first believed. Faith believes that because of your circumstances, not despite them, you were uniquely positioned to achieve what it is you imagine.

"Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right."

-Henry Ford

3. Make it Happen

Execution is key. It is the one thing that separates the dreamers from the doers. Execution makes ideas tangible. You build, construct, create, and breathe life into them. This is such a unique and powerful ability in humans. To create is divine, and if we were made in God's image, we were made to do the same. Whether a work of art, a business, or a thriving family, we were called to create, and that act itself is a miracle.

"Ideas are easy. It's the execution of ideas

that really separates the sheep from the goats."

-Sue Grafton
