Jack Canfield: Author of Chicken Soup For the Soul Series


"Decide what you want, believe you can have it, believe you deserve it, and believe it's possible for you."


Jack Canfield is co-author of the universally acclaimed Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, as well as the book "How to Get from Where You Are To Where You Want To Be: Success Principles".


One of Jack's leading beliefs is that every one of us is born with a unique, life purpose. Something that we were meant to do to bring forward our own gifts and talents in service to the world in such a way that we make a difference to others and we also create a great life for ourselves. 


His life's purpose is to inspire and empower people to live their highest vision in the context of love and joy. He's been doing that for over 45 years, in both his breakthrough to success  seminars and the books that he writes. 


Now, inspiring other people through the Chicken Soup for the Soul Books, and collecting inspirational stories, and telling those stories, is to let you know that you can actually achieve extraordinary things if you set your mind to it. 


And the empowerment part comes from writing books like "How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be: The Success Principles Book", 


Here are a couple of tips Jack shares to help you along your journey to success. 


1. You have to take 100% responsibility for your life and your results

That means you have to give up all blaming, all complaining, and all excuse-making. And I encourage you to act, as if, for the next 30 days, you either created it, promoted it, or allowed it. If you do that, you're going to be more empowered to create the life that you want, because if you created it, you have the power to uncreate it, and re-create it the way you want. 


2. You have to decide exactly what you want out of your life

Be clear about your vision, and your goals, and what it is you want to accomplish. The reality of that is that once you have a clear, specific goal, or a lot of goals that helps you achieve your specific vision, then you can move in a direction of creating what you want. It's like having a GPS system in your car, in order to get from where you are to where you want to be, you have to decide where is the "where I want to be." That's how you put the destination into your GPS system. Your mind will then begin to figure our how to do that. However, one of the things that stops you from getting where you want to go is limiting beliefs and fears, often which were subconscious -- you didn't even know you had them. And so one of the most important things for success is to get your mindset right so that all the skill sets you learned, the "How To's", can be put into action, and not self-sabotage or stop by unconscious limiting beliefs and fears. 


3. Reprogram Your Autopilot 

So think of this analogy: Say you want to go north. But you're in a boat that has an automatic pilot that is programmed to take it east. Now, there's a steering wheel for the boat. You can take that wheel and turn it really hard, and using your wheel power you can get that boat to go north. But as soon as I let go of that wheel power, the automatic pilot takes over and goes east again. So it's critical in your life to reprogram that automatic pilot so it's effortless and easy to get to where you want to go. It's natural. We are naturally programmed to do what we want to do easily if we don't get in the way of that programming with all of that baggage we picked up along the way. So the idea here is that you want to do that reprogramming.
